Activated Carbon

Activated carbon is a type of carbon that has undergone special treatment. It has remarkable characteristics:

Rich pore structure: It possesses a large number of micropores and a large specific surface area, which can provide more adsorption sites.

Strong adsorption capacity: It can effectively adsorb a variety of substances, such as harmful gases, heavy metals, pigments, etc., thereby purifying the air and water quality.

Stable chemical properties: It is resistant to acids, alkalis, and high temperatures, allowing it to be used in different environments without easily undergoing chemical reactions.

Reusable: After use, the adsorbed substances can be desorbed through methods such as heating, restoring its adsorption performance and reducing usage costs. Because of these advantages, activated carbon is widely applied in numerous fields, including environmental protection, food, medicine, and many others.

Product Details

Product Introduction:

Activated carbon is a type of carbon that has undergone special treatment, typically prepared and activated from carbon-containing materials such as coal, wood, and coconut shells. It possesses countless tiny pores and an enormous surface area, with each gram of activated carbon having a surface area ranging from 500 to 1500 square meters. It commonly exists in two forms: powdered and granular. Powdered activated carbon exhibits strong adsorption capacity, is easy to prepare, and relatively inexpensive, but it is difficult to regenerate and generally cannot be reused. On the other hand, granular activated carbon is more expensive but can be regenerated and reused. Additionally, its use offers better working conditions and more convenient operation and management.

Product Advantages:

Excellent adsorption performance: It exhibits strong adsorption capacity for dissolved organic compounds in water, effectively removing the majority of organic pollutants—such as phenols, benzene derivatives, petroleum hydrocarbons, and many synthetic organic chemicals. It also efficiently eliminates odors, decolorizes water, and removes harmful substances from wastewater.

High adaptability: It is highly tolerant to fluctuations in water volume, quality, and temperature. Even when treating wastewater with pollutant concentrations and compositions significantly higher than average, it still achieves effective treatment results and consistently delivers stable effluent quality.

Reusable: During wastewater treatment, its structure and properties remain unchanged. Spent activated carbon that has reached adsorption saturation can be sent to specialized facilities equipped with regeneration technology for reactivation and subsequent reuse, thereby reducing operational costs.

Exhibits catalytic properties: The surface of activated carbon can act as a catalyst and is applicable in a wide range of scenarios.

Enhances treatment efficiency: When powdered activated carbon (PAC) is added to aeration tanks, it forms aggregates with microorganisms, resulting in treatment performance that surpasses conventional secondary biological treatment and produces effluent quality approaching that of tertiary treatment. Additionally, PAC helps produce denser and more compact activated sludge, reducing effluent turbidity and increasing the hydraulic loading capacity of the secondary treatment process.Furthermore, adding a certain amount of powdered activated carbon to sludge digesters accelerates sludge settling, clarifies the supernatant returned to the water treatment system, improves overall system efficiency, promotes the breakdown of sludge solids, eliminates foul odors, and enhances the operational capacity of treatment facilities.

Recovery of valuable substances: Organic compounds in water are removed through physical adsorption, and their chemical properties remain unchanged before and after adsorption. By employing appropriate desorption techniques, these valuable substances can be recovered from the water.

Service industry (in the field of wastewater treatment)

Oil refineries: Wastewater from oil refineries typically contains high levels of oil. It can first undergo pretreatment, followed by deep treatment through sand filtration and activated carbon filtration.

Mercury-containing wastewater treatment: Suitable for treating wastewater with low mercury concentrations.

Industrial wastewater treatment: Industrial wastewater may contain not only highly toxic components such as cyanide, but also metal ions such as chromium, zinc, and nickel. Activated carbon adsorption method is widely used due to its high efficiency and good effect.

Municipal wastewater treatment: In municipal wastewater treatment, activated carbon adsorption is commonly applied after biological treatment—known as tertiary wastewater treatment with activated carbon—to further reduce the concentration of organic pollutants and remove contaminants that are resistant to microbial degradation, thereby ensuring the treated effluent meets discharge standards or is suitable for reuse.

Biological Activated Carbon (BAC) treatment: This method can be applied in secondary wastewater treatment, but it is more commonly used for advanced (tertiary) treatment following secondary biological processes. It further reduces the concentration of organic pollutants in water and is particularly suitable for applications where organic concentrations are relatively low—such as in drinking water treatment and wastewater reclamation.
