  Polyaluminum chloride (PAC), also known simply as "polyaluminum," is a water purification material and an inorganic polymeric coagulant. It is produced through the bridging effect of hydroxide ions and the polymerization effect of multivalent anions, resulting in an inorganic polymeric water treatment chemical with a relatively high molecular weight and high positive charge.

  Polyaluminum chloride (PAC) typically appears in colors such as white, yellow, and brownish-yellow. PAC products of different colors vary significantly in both application and production technology.PAC with aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) content within the standard range of 27% to 30% is usually a solid powder ranging from earthy yellow to yellow or pale yellow. These types of PAC exhibit good water solubility and, during dissolution, undergo a series of physicochemical processes—including electrochemical reactions, coagulation, adsorption, and precipitation—leading to rapid formation of large, highly active flocs that settle quickly, delivering notably effective purification for high-turbidity water.

  White PAC, often referred to as high-purity iron-free white PAC or food-grade white PAC, represents a higher-quality product compared to other forms. It is primarily manufactured from premium-grade aluminum hydroxide powder and hydrochloric acid, using an advanced domestic production technique known as spray drying. White PAC finds applications in diverse fields, including as a sizing agent in papermaking, a decolorizing and clarifying agent in sugar refining, in leather tanning, cosmetics, precision casting, and various water treatment processes.

  Yellow polyaluminum chloride (PAC) is primarily produced from calcium aluminate powder, hydrochloric acid, and bauxite. It is mainly used in wastewater treatment and drinking water treatment.For drinking water applications, the raw materials are typically high-purity aluminum hydroxide powder and hydrochloric acid, with only a small amount of calcium aluminate powder added. The manufacturing processes employed are usually plate-and-frame filtration or spray drying.

  Due to stringent requirements regarding heavy metal content in drinking water treatment, both the raw materials and production processes for yellow PAC used in this application are of higher quality and stricter control compared to those used for brownish-yellow PAC.

  Brownish-yellow polyaluminum chloride (PAC) is made from raw materials including calcium aluminate powder, hydrochloric acid, bauxite, and iron powder. It is typically produced using the rotary drum drying process and is primarily used in wastewater treatment.The addition of iron powder gives the product its characteristic brownish-yellow color—the more iron powder added, the darker the color becomes. When the iron content exceeds a certain threshold, the product is sometimes referred to as polyaluminum ferric chloride (PAFC). This type of coagulant demonstrates excellent performance in wastewater treatment applications.
