Nitrifying bacterial strains

Nitrifying bacterial strains are a group of microorganisms crucial for wastewater treatment, primarily comprising ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB), which function under aerobic conditions.Ammonia-oxidizing bacteria first convert ammonia nitrogen into nitrite, and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria subsequently transform nitrite into nitrate. This process effectively reduces ammonia nitrogen levels in water, improves water quality, and helps prevent eutrophication. Nitrifying bacteria are suitable for various applications, including municipal sewage and industrial wastewater treatment. For optimal performance, key operational parameters must be carefully controlled: temperature (20–30°C), pH (7.5–8.5), and dissolved oxygen (2–4 mg/L). Proper use of nitrifying bacterial strains enhances the stability and efficiency of wastewater treatment systems, ensuring that effluent ammonia nitrogen concentrations meet regulatory standards.

Product Details

Product Introduction:

Nitrifying bacteria are a group of chemolithoautotrophic microorganisms capable of oxidizing ammonia (NH₃) or ammonium ions (NH₄⁺) to nitrite (NO₂⁻), and subsequently further oxidizing nitrite to nitrate (NO₃⁻). They play a pivotal role in the nitrogen cycle and are of significant practical value in applications such as wastewater treatment, aquaculture, and soil ecosystems.

Product Advantages:

1.Efficiently removes ammonia nitrogen and ensures water quality safety: Nitrifying bacteria convert toxic ammonia (NH₃) and ammonium ions (NH₄⁺) into less toxic nitrate (NO₃⁻), significantly reducing ammonia nitrogen concentrations in water or soil.

2. Promotes the nitrogen cycle and maintains ecosystem balance: As a critical step in the nitrogen cycle, nitrification converts ammonia—produced from the mineralization of organic nitrogen—into nitrate, a form readily absorbable by plants, thereby enhancing nitrogen use efficiency. In natural aquatic and soil environments, this process helps prevent eutrophication and algal blooms caused by ammonia accumulation.

3. Suitable for a variety of wastewater treatment processes, nitrifying bacteria are widely applied in systems such as the activated sludge process, biofilm-based technologies (e.g., biological filters, MBBR), constructed wetlands, and MBR (Membrane Bioreactors). They can work synergistically with other microorganisms—such as denitrifying bacteria—to achieve simultaneous nitrogen and phosphorus removal, meeting stringent effluent standards, including Class 1A of the "Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants."

4. Environmentally friendly with no secondary pollution: The nitrification process is a natural biological transformation that requires no chemical additives, thereby avoiding the introduction of foreign contaminants. The end product, nitrate, can either be taken up by plants or further converted via denitrification into harmless nitrogen gas (N₂), which is released into the atmosphere—completing a closed-loop nitrogen cycle.

5. It can be formulated into highly efficient biological agents to rapidly initiate systems. Commercialized nitrifying bacterial agents (such as composite bacteria containing Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter) can be used for: the "water conditioning" phase in newly established fish tanks and shrimp ponds to shorten the system maturation time; system recovery in wastewater treatment plants after encountering shock loads (such as high-ammonia wastewater); and the use of tolerant strains selected under special conditions, such as low temperature or high salinity, to enhance system stability.

6. Expanding application potential with novel nitrifying bacteria: The discovery of complete ammonia oxidizers (Comammox), such as members of the genus Nitrospira, has opened new possibilities. These bacteria can perform the entire conversion of ammonia to nitrate within a single organism. They exhibit faster growth rates and higher substrate affinity, giving them a distinct advantage—particularly in low-ammonia environments. This breakthrough offers innovative pathways for developing energy-efficient, compact nitrogen removal processes, such as those integrating anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox).

Service Industries:

Wastewater treatment: Used in processes such as activated sludge, biological filters, and MBR (Membrane Bioreactors) to remove ammonia nitrogen and prevent eutrophication of water bodies.

Aquaculture: Degrades ammonia generated from fish excreta in biofiltration systems, helping to maintain water quality and ensure a safe aquatic environment.

Agriculture and soil improvement: Facilitates the conversion of nitrogen in soil into nitrate, a form readily absorbable by plants.

Commercial bacterial inoculants: Commercially available nitrifying bacteria products are commonly used during the start-up phase of aquariums, shrimp ponds, or wastewater treatment systems to accelerate the establishment of nitrifying communities.
