Total nitrogen (TNO) bacteria are microbial communities used to reduce the total nitrogen content in wastewater. They comprise functional strains such as nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria.
In wastewater treatment systems, nitrifying bacteria convert ammonia nitrogen into nitrate nitrogen, while denitrifying bacteria reduce nitrate and nitrite nitrogen back into nitrogen gas, releasing it into the air. TNO bacteria are suitable for treating various nitrogen-containing wastewaters, such as industrial wastewater and domestic sewage. Maintaining suitable temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen levels is crucial for their use. They significantly enhance the system's ability to remove total nitrogen, improve treatment efficiency, help wastewater meet total nitrogen discharge standards, and improve water quality.
Product Introduction:
Total nitrogen bacteria are microbial products used in wastewater treatment. Common types include denitrifying bacteria, nitrifying bacteria, COD-degrading bacteria, and complex denitrifying bacteria. Their working principle mainly utilizes the biodegradation capabilities of microorganisms to remove pollutants from water. For example, denitrifying bacteria, in anaerobic or low-oxygen environments, can use organic matter as electron donors to gradually reduce nitrates and nitrites in the water to nitrogen gas or nitrous oxide, which ultimately escapes from the water, thus achieving the removal of total nitrogen.
The product is available in forms such as reddish-brown liquid and powder. Some products contain a viable bacterial count of ≥20 billion CFU/g, with a contaminant (heterotrophic) bacteria rate of ≤2.0%, and a pH range of 6.5–7.0.
Product Advantages:
High treatment efficiency: It can rapidly bring key water quality parameters—such as total nitrogen (TN), ammonia nitrogen (NH₃-N), and chemical oxygen demand (COD)—into compliance within just three days. Compared to conventional biochemical acclimation methods, it significantly shortens the treatment timeline and reduces both operational complexity and costs.
Easy dosing: The high-efficiency bacterial strains can be fully added within just one day, or alternatively, dosed gradually over two to three days as needed.
Strong environmental adaptability: Certain products are cold-tolerant and effective at water temperatures as low as 5–10°C. Additionally, some bacterial strains can thrive in environments with high ammonia nitrogen, high salinity, and high dissolved oxygen levels.
Excellent removal effect: The total nitrogen in the effluent of some products can reach below 10mg/L, with a removal rate of up to 98%, which can effectively remove nitrate nitrogen and nitrite.
High safety: Safe and free from side effects.
Strong stability and shock resistance: Maintains consistent treatment performance and effectively adapts to fluctuations in water quality.
Accelerates system startup: Shortens the acclimation period of activated sludge and biofilm formation time, expediting the commissioning of wastewater treatment systems, reducing hydraulic retention time, and enhancing overall treatment capacity.
Other side effects: It can reduce odor emissions, suppress bacterial growth, reduce the production of biogas, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, and reduce air pollution.
