Antifoam agent

Blue Shen Environmental Antifoam Agent is a high-efficiency, non-silicone antifoam agent that does not contain organic silicon. It is suitable for eliminating foam in low pH foaming systems, such as papermaking white water containing cationic rosin, modified starch, polyvinyl alcohol, and AKD sizing agents, as well as in dye, pigment, and ink manufacturing. It can quickly eliminate foam on the water surface and rapidly remove tiny bubbles adsorbed on fibers in the water. It has the advantages of low dosage, fast defoaming, and long-lasting foam suppression.

Product Details

Product Introduction

An antifoam agent is an additive used to eliminate foam, also known as a defoamer, foam suppressor, or antifoaming agent. It is a surfactant that works by disrupting the foam's liquid film, thereby achieving foam control. Due to its small dosage, it is also referred to as a high-efficiency, low-foam surfactant or high-efficiency, low-foam cleaner.

It was developed primarily to address the issue of foam that is difficult to eliminate in a short period. Some foams take a long time to dissipate on their own, and for industrial production, using an antifoam agent allows for rapid defoaming. Additionally, antifoam agents also have an antifoaming function, helping to reduce foam formation at its source.

Antifoam agents have a lower surface tension than the solution in the system being used, which can disrupt the extensibility and thickness of the foam film, thereby achieving foam breakdown. There are many types of antifoam agents available on the market. According to their main components, they can be classified into polyether antifoam agents, non-silicone antifoam agents, mineral oil antifoam agents, organic silicone antifoam agents, modified organic silicone antifoam agents, tributyl phosphate antifoam agents, and more.

According to their industry applications, they can be categorized as water treatment antifoam agents, industrial cleaning antifoam agents, metalworking fluid antifoam agents, and others. Based on their form, they can be either liquid emulsion-type or solid powder-type. In terms of their properties, they can be divided into high-temperature resistant, acid and alkali resistant, shear-resistant, and other types.

Product Advantages

Different types of antifoam agents each have their own advantages:

Silicone-based: After improvement and optimization, it is a third-generation antifoam agent. Its surface tension is lower than that of water, surfactant aqueous solutions, and most oils. It has low volatility, chemical inertness, strong defoaming performance, and rapid foam-breaking ability. It has a wide range of applications but slightly weaker antifoaming performance. It is recommended to be used in combination with other antifoam agents.

Surfactant-based: This is a first-generation antifoam agent, essentially an emulsifier. It utilizes the dispersing effect of surfactants to keep the substances that form foam in a stable emulsified state in water, thereby preventing foam formation. It has advantages such as readily available raw materials, high environmental performance, and low production costs. However, its defoaming efficiency is relatively low, it is highly specialized, and the usage conditions are more stringent.

Polyether-based: This includes three types: linear polyethers, polyethers initiated by alcohol or ammonia, and terminally esterified polyether derivatives. The most significant advantage is its strong antifoaming ability, along with properties such as high-temperature resistance and resistance to strong acids and alkalis. It can continue to defoam and suppress foam in harsh environments. However, it is temperature-sensitive, with relatively low defoaming efficiency, and its application range is not as broad as that of organic silicone-based agents.

Mineral oil-based: These antifoam agents use mineral oil as the main defoaming component, sometimes mixed with metallic soaps, silicone oils, silica, and other substances. They are effective under both acidic and alkaline conditions and have good heat resistance. However, they have poor compatibility and are not very effective on dense foam. They are not suitable for industries that have strict requirements for the appearance and gloss of the product. They are generally used in coatings and inks where gloss requirements are not high.

Service Industries

Antifoam agents have a wide range of applications and can serve many industries, such as the food industry, papermaking industry, water treatment, oil extraction, dyeing industry, coatings industry, detergent industry, rubber latex industry, aerosol industry, daily chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, dairy industry, and more.

In specific production and application processes, industries such as coatings, textiles, medicine, fermentation, papermaking, water treatment, and petrochemicals often generate large amounts of foam, which can affect product quality and the production process. Typically, a specific amount of antifoam agent is added to suppress and eliminate the foam.
